Project Description

Classic Builders successfully delivered a highly complex, multi-million-pound internal and external refurbishment and extension project over multiple phases, at the live and operational Camborne Police Station. Located in the busy heart of Camborne town centre, the extensive modernisation scheme spanned three separate buildings across the site, ranging from single to three-storey structures. To maintain full operational continuity for the blue-light service, the vast scope of works was executed over three meticulously planned, sequential construction phases.

The physical transformation began with extensive internal demolition alongside structural hard and soft strip-outs of the existing buildings. Due to the age of the structures, specialised teams initially conducted asbestos removal before progressing to major structural changes. On the ground floor, the team constructed a brand-new, steel-frame extension to house a modern, secure Public Enquiry Office. The exterior facade was revitalised through extensive re-roofing works and the application of a high-performance insulated render system.

Furthermore, the entire building envelope was upgraded with new external doors, automatic door-sets, curtain walling, and new high-specification, double-glazed, fire-resistant windows. External civil works concluded with the creation of a resurfaced tarmac car park featuring white lining, the integration of modern electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, the construction of a dedicated external e-bike storage facility, and full hard and soft landscaping.

Internally, the facility underwent a floor-to-ceiling overhaul to improve accessibility, compliance, and staff welfare. Classic Builders installed a brand-new passenger lift, a passenger stairlift, and structural access ramps to ensure step-free accessibility throughout the multi-storey facility. The building’s core office areas were completely modernised with new ceiling grids, heavy-duty commercial carpets, internal door-set replacements, and full internal redecoration.

A major feature of the internal upgrade was the creation of a premium, high-specification gym. This wellness hub was fitted with dedicated showering facilities, a locker room, a drying room, and updated WCs, including an accessible shower and toilet suite finished with hygienic Whiterock wall cladding.

The buildings received comprehensive Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) installations to replace aging infrastructure and future-proof the station. This included full upgrades to the central heating systems, energy-efficient LED lighting installations, and automated emergency lighting systems. Security and safety networks were significantly bolstered through the integration of state-of-the-art intruder alarms and a completely overhauled fire alarm network. To achieve stringent modern building regulations and safeguard personnel, the team installed new internal fire doors and executed fire-stopping measures across all structural compartments and service penetrations. New internal and external service utilities and site drainage were also integrated, requiring deep, precise trench work directly within the footprint of the existing buildings.

Operating within a high-security emergency services hub required logistical discipline and compliance. As the facilities remained fully occupied throughout the build, all staff and operatives on site underwent stringent security vetting to receive official clearance, and personnel were mandated to carry identification at all times. Crucially, the station maintained its 24-hour emergency blue-light response capabilities, live custody suites, and occupied cells without operational interruption.
